A stylised narrative of brass and jazz: at once retro and modern.

By far the best Fantastic Four adaptation never made, The Incredibles draws heavily on 1960s action films both aesthetically and musically to tell a captivating and original tale of a family of superheroes defeating a wicked, deranged villain. Packed with vibrant colours and exotic locales, The Incredibles is one of Pixar's most iconic productions to date.

Much of the film's lasting appeal — a rare sequel is due for release in June 2019 — is thanks to the sensational score from the world-renowned composer Michael Giacchino. A natural choice for such a stylised project, he has previously written for Lost, for the recent blockbusting Star Trek revival and most heartrendingly for Pixar's Up.

Giacchino's score is heavy on brass and light on restraint. Recorded in toto on analogue equipment, it feels at once modern, retro and timeless.
